The spotlight burns me. It reaches under my skin and tears me open and leaves me parched but that is not why I avoid it. I avoid it because I love the show. My strengths lie in waiting to cue in the applause rather than in getting it. That is why I write.
Sometimes the words flow out of me while the story remains unwritten and other times I sit for days waiting for the next sentence to bust out. It is a strange relationship; me and the alphabet, and I love every minute of it. It helps calm the voices in my head.
Hello, my name is Mirriam Awuor and I am scared of ducks. I love puppies, food, flowers, travel, children, sad songs and a glass of red wine at the end of an impossible day. I also like people. There is something new you learn every time when watching people. I will write about these things and more,
and we need to agree that I am no expert in any of them. I will write about how I see them and about how they feel against my skin and in my chest. And I will listen to what your view is of said things because you too are supposed to not just live a little, but to live a story. I would love it if we choose to hear each other’s stories and be civilized about it. If only for the sake of all the puppies of the world.
This here is the spotlight. Let me shine it on you and allow you to dance to the applause of my words.
Welcome my lovelies.
